Mythbusters - You Went Before Your Time
Well, this last weekend saw the end of 'new' Mythbusters.
Somehow, I just don't buy that.
Adam and Jamie both have said that they don't intend on getting together again on such a production.
Somehow, I don't buy that either.
The feel of the last two seasons, and the way the Reunion episodes (plural - there were two of them in reality, as the second showing on Science Channel differed from that shown on Discovery the night before) went seemed to me that not everyone went willingly. I get the feeling that lawyers and Discovery themselves broke up the team. Variety Magazine initially called it a cancellation - but that was changed to a simple 'final season' due to the stars wanting to finish it.
If it were simply a case of Jamie and Adam getting too old to bust-a-myth, I would think introducing replacements would have suffice (properly mind you - not just dumped on us like what's about to happen over at Top Gear UK - Matt LeBlanc? Really?). But something tells me, and again, this draws back to the unceremoniously dropped trio of The Build Team two years ago, and the then hastily tacked on farewell given by the two main hosts to an already completed episode, that background rancor from higher up caused the series to come to an end more than, as noted by the top pair, to go out on a high note.
One can only hope that what really is happening is a non-competition clause being enforced. As Neil deGrasse Tyson pointed out, there's so much more to do - get back to work! I guess if Amazon were smart, as they were by quickly hiring the TG Trio for their own series, once available, they'd get the Busters back together as well. I'd hate to see that happen, as I'm not a fan of having to pay TWICE to see my favorite folks (once for the cable/internet bill and second to get the episodes) in action.
Bummers folks... just bummers.
